The number of pumps is important from the stand point that bilge pumps are not reliable because they are electrical devices submerged in water. Contrary to common belief, the pumps themselves rarely fail; its the electrical system from which they operate that is usually the cause of the failure. Because of this, one way to improve reliability is with redundancy, or increasing the number of pumps to decrease the odds of complete loss of pumping ability.

I have three posts, two small posts and one large post on my starter solenoid… Typically, GM vehicles prior to have starter solenoids with three posts: Battery — This is the large post on the solenoid which is usually found on the center top of the solenoid. This is the post where the positive battery cable attaches along with any battery feed wires that the car might require.
These wires are usually heavy gauge red, or black wires and may contain a fusible link. This post becomes hot only while the starter is cranking. On an original points car, this post feeds a wire that sends full voltage to the coil during cranking. This wire is know as the resistance bypass wire, as it bypasses the resistance circuit that will typically feed the coil when the car is running. This is done to boost the coil output during engine start.
It is noteworthy that on some of our HEI conversion engine harnesses this wire is retained due to the design of the factory ignition switch and circuitry. While factory HEI vehicles do not have this bypass wire, on some of our HEI conversion harnesses, this wire is still required and may be found on your harness.

Installation Instructions A tachometer is a good addition to any vehicle equipped with a manual transmission. Installation of the Autogage Tachometer was fairly simple with only minor wiring including a wire to the distributor, a good ground, a 12 volt switched power source and a wire to power the tach’s light. The following write-up is an overview of the installation I followed and includes a few illustrations from the installation guide provided from Autogage.
To change the tach to operate on 4 or 6 cylinder engines, a pair of dip switches are located within the tach to make the adjustment. To get to the cylinder dip switches you have to remove rear cup by placing the tachometer face down on. A phillips screw retains the cup so remove that screw located on the back.
Gently lift the cup off to expose the circuit boards. Careful not to pull on the wires. Locate the dips switches on the circuit board. Move each of the two switches to the proper cylinder selection according to the diagram illustration on the right. Switch 2 up 8 Cyl.
